As retired soccer star David Beckham seems to lean toward Miami as the home of his new Major Leagie Soccer team, he is reportedly looking to buy one of South Florida's most famous houses!
Beckham and his Spice Girls wife Victoria are considering a bid on the Versace Mansion on Miami Beach's Ocean Drive, according to reports in their native England.
The ornate 1930s era property, renamed Casa Casuarina when it became a private club in the mid-2000s, is set to be sold in a bankruptcy auction Sept. 17. It had been for sale for $125 million.
The stunning 23,000-square-foot estate belonged to the late fashion designer Gianni Versace, who was murdered on the front steps in 1997.
The three-story mansion has 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a mosaic lined swimming pool adorned with 24-karat gold, and $10,000 marble toilet custom added for Loftin.
And now, it's stuck smack dab is in the middle of a legal limbo after eccentric Boca Raton developer Peter Loftin, who holds controlling interests, failed to make payments on the $25 million-mortgage.
As a membership club similar to Palm Beach's Mar-a-Lago, the mansion never captured the imagination in the same way it did as Versace's party house.
Bidding starts start at $25,000!
Becks, meanwhile, has been busy talking to local honchos and investors about his plans for a Miami soccer team.
He attended several Miami Heat playoff games in May to get the feel of the sports fans here and is said to be smitten - despite the fact that MLS may not want to expand to Miami.
"He was impressed by the area," a source tells Gossip Extra. "He felt the heat and loved Miami, and does believe it's a hot sports town."
According to reports, Beckham's L.A. Galaxy contract gave him the option of buying a franchise for the super-discount price of $25 million.
