Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday in New York, becoming the first Hawaii native and the first Ducks player to receive the award as college football's most outstanding player.
Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper were the other finalists.
Mariota, a redshirt junior from Honolulu, led Oregon to a 12-1 record, the Pacific-12 Conference championship and the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff. He accounted for 53 total touchdowns and had only two interceptions.
Oregon will face No. 3 Florida State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 for a chance to play for the national championship.
Gordon ran for 2,336 yards on 309 carries and scored 26 rushing touchdowns during the season, and Cooper had 115 receptions for 1,656 yards and 14 touchdowns.
