ASHBURN, Va. - Though it remained unclear whether quarterback Robert Griffin III might be able to play again this season for the Washington Redskins following a left ankle dislocation, there was a positive report Monday.
Griffin said that an MRI of the joint showed no fractures, which often accompany ankle dislocations, according to
The Washington Post.
'Positive news. ... He was watching over me,' Griffin said in the report.
There was no official announcement from the Redskins. Coach Jay Gruden has a press conference set for Monday afternoon.
Bone fractures that accompany ankle dislocations typically require surgery. That scenario would likely have been a season-ending injury for Griffin, who was injured in the first quarter of Sunday's 41-10 home victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
He was hurt on a play reminiscent of those he made during his outstanding rookie year with his mobility and arm. Sprinting to his right on a scramble, Griffin completed a pass for a first down just before he went out of bounds. But he said his left foot got caught in the grass just before he threw the ball - and he went down on the sideline.
