You've got to excuse me as I'm crying while writing this - the season three premiere of 'Chicago Fire' was heartbreaking to say the least. Not that we'd expect less after the cliffhanger last season.
If you haven't yet watched the September 23rd premiere of Chicago Fire, and somehow have managed not to find out who died, don't keep reading. If you have, please join me in my misery. 'Chicago Fire': Shay's Dead & It's Not OK
When season two left all of Firehouse 51 up in flames, I knew that not everyone could make it out alive. However, I didn't see this coming. On the premiere, we see that Leslie Shay (
Lauren German) was hit in the head with a pipe while inside - and Dawson (
Monica Raymund) and Severide (
Taylor Kinney) couldn't save her.
Take Our Poll
Dawson completely broke down during the episode, revealing that she had Shay switch places with her - so she should have been standing there when the beam hit her - which totally broke my heart.
Like I said, I understand that it only makes sense that one of the firefighters didn't make it out, but I really feel like Shay is not who it should have been - how is this going to affect the show? How Will Shay's Death Change 51?
Well we already know it's causing Severide to consider leaving the house, permanently and according to the show's EP, it's also going to be affecting his relationship with Erin Lindsay (
Sophia Bush of Chicago PD). At the end of the premiere, he watched the video he had made with Shay, showing their promise to each other that they would always support one another. Seeing him cry may have been the most heartbreaking part of the series. And trust me, I've cried a lot during this series.
Throughout season two, Shay went through her ups and downs - which she had a lot of, and finally was at a good place with Dawson and with Severide again, and now well, it brings the morale of the house way down.
Unfortunately, I understand that deaths have to happen for shows to go on - every show I watch has had my favorites die. However, I just wish they went a different way.
What do you think,
HollywoodLifers? Do you think Shay's death will bring everyone together in the long run?
