ARLINGTON - San Francisco is more than 1,450 miles from Arlington. But a large crowd of 49ers fans crashed the Cowboys' season opener, where 91,174 people watched San Francisco prevail. Red, one of the 49ers' two main colors, was seen throughout AT&T Stadium - from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.
When owner Jerry Jones was asked if he noticed the large presence of San Francisco supporters, he bristled.
'In a game like this, or any game, I just pay attention to the field,' Jones said. 'Somebody else asked me that a minute ago, and I won't get into that until sometime during this week but I'll probably get any data that we get on that. But that's not something that I would really pay a lot of attention to and the only thing I'm paying attention to is maybe the crowd noise when we got possession or we're trying to keep them from making a first down in a tight situation. I think you asked... We've talked about that. No, I don't have any knowledge or information about the ratio of fans.'
In 2011, when Dallas won at San Francisco, Cowboys fans invaded Candlestick Park, occupying plenty of seats at that stadium. On Sunday, the 49ers supporters returned the favor at AT&T Stadium. Chants of 'Defense! Defense!' and 'Let's go Niners!' were heard.
'They were there,' Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr said. 'Their team gave them a reason to make noise. We're still in the process of giving our fans a reason to cheer for us. Once we do that, they'll be quiet. Take all those factors out, it just comes down to playing football.' TOP PICKS
