If you decide to roll with Andre Ellington in your fantasy league this week, you're doing so at your own risk. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians announced on Saturday that Ellington would be a game-time decision for Arizona's season opener on Monday night against San Diego.
Arians added that he's 'optimistic' about the possibility that Ellington will play. Ellington was a limited participant during the Cardinals practice on Saturday. The reason Arians wouldn't commit to playing Ellington on Monday is because it's a fluid situation.
'It's one of those things where every day when you wake up it could be different,' Arians said.
The team has been mostly coy about Ellington's status since he was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Ellington had an MRI done on Thursday and it was reported that there was a possibility that he would be out for an 'extended period of time.' According to Mike Jurecki of KGME-AM in Arizona, Ellington consulted with three foot specialists and all agreed that he wouldn't need to get surgery.
Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin didn't offer any more answers on Friday after Ellington sat out of practice, 'That's out of my pay scale,' Goodwin said. 'I don't talk about injuries.'
If Ellington can't go on Monday, then Jonathan Dwyer would most likely be called upon to carry the load for the Cardinals. Dwyer ran for 197 yards last season as a backup in Pittsburgh.
Besides Ellington, Arians also announced that safety Tyrann Mathieu would be a game-time decision.
