At a pre-Video Music Awards party hosted by Chris Brown, Death Row Records founder Suge Knight was shot a reported six times. Will he live?
Shots rang out at 1OAK in West Hollywood early on August 24 as
Chris Brown, 25, hosted a pre-Video Music Awards party. Witnesses have reported that Chris was the intended target, but
Suge Knight, 49, was the one who suffered six gunshot wounds, TMZ is reporting. The record producer was somehow well enough to walk out of the club on his own two feet, but he was immediately rushed into an ambulance and into surgery. Will he be OK? As of this writing, Suge has left surgery and is currently resting in the ICU of a West Hollywood hospital, TMZ reports. The founder of Death Row Records is expected to make a full recovery after being shot in the arm and stomach.
Suge is not the only person who was shot, sources have revealed to TMZ; at least two more were hit, and at least one is in critical condition.
For video of the chaos inside the club, watch the videos we've obtained as well as one that the has obtained. So scary.
Is Suge bulletproof? This isn't the first time that he's been at the center of a club shooting, nor is it the first time that he's been shot at a pre-Video Music Awards party! In 2005, he was shot in the upper leg in Miami nightclub Shore during a pre-VMAs party hosted by
Kanye West, 37. Suge Knight: Not The First Time He's Been Shot At A Pre-VMAs Party
In 2008, Suge filed a lawsuit against Kanye and his team for mental and physical pain as well as for a lost $147,000 diamond earring; worth noting is that he filed this suit at the same time he was filing a bankruptcy claim.
Suge has also been implicated in the 1996 shooting death of rapper
Tupac Shakur, 25; indeed, in 1996, after the release of Tha Doggfather,
Snoop Dogg, 42, left the label because he believed that Suge was involved.
Death Row Records was finally sold in 2008 after Suge's various legal troubles ran it into the ground; when he spent time in prison in 2003 for a parole violation, Death Row was barely kept afloat by releasing archived work of Snoop Dogg's and Tupac's.
The host of the party, Chris, recently spoke out about the shooting. Check out what he said here. HollywoodLife.com also reached out to Chris' reps for comment on the shooting.
'Chris hosted an event in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the upcoming release of his album X, during which an incident occurred,' his reps said. 'This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event. He has and will continue to cooperate with the investigation.'
Suge's shooter is still at large, but we're glad that he is recovering safely. Our thoughts go out to the other clubgoers who were injured during the incident.
