Things may not be looking good for the Rams and Sam Bradford, who is still undergoing testing for a potential ACL injury.
The St. Louis Rams have 'real concern' that quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a significant ACL injury on Saturday despite initial optimism, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN. Fox Sports' Mike Garofalo is hearing the same thing, and it's possible Bradford has torn the ligament.
Bradford left the Rams' preseason game on Saturday after taking a hit to his left knee from Armonty Bryant of the Cleveland Browns. It was initially reported that the team had 'dodged a bullet' based on early test results of the quarterback's knee, but that was before he underwent a complete MRI to better assess the damage.
We don't know how that MRI went, but obviously things didn't look good if optimism surrounding the injury has begun to dissipate. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com says doctors are still trying to determine just how bad things are for Bradford, and he's still undergoing more tests before a final diagnosis is made.
An ACL tear would be the latest in a long line of injuries for Bradford, who's entering his fifth season after being taken No. 1 overall out of Oklahoma. He's completed two full seasons but missed significant time in two others, and a major knee injury would obviously put his entire 2014 season in jeopardy before it has even started.
The Rams would also be in some trouble without their starting quarterback, as longtime journeyman Shaun Hill would likely take over behind center. St. Louis planned to depend on Bradford's developing talent after he showed signs of progress between injuries last season, and now he may not even be able to take the field.
We'll have to see how bad the injury is before making any conclusions, but this is one of the unfortunate parts of preseason football.
