Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay played selected in the N.F.L. draft when he was taken in the seventh round in May, was cut by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, the team announced on its website.
Sam, who was named the Southeastern Conference's co-defensive player of the year at Missouri, can still join the Rams practice squad or be picked up by another team.
