It's official - Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have separated after six years of marriage, and Mariah is totally 'heartbroken' that they couldn't make it work.

Mariah Carey, 44, are living separately and that the rumors of there being 'trouble in paradise' are totally true. While distance is a factor, rumors of Nick's cheating persist. 'This has been going on for months,' says their source. 'It has a lot to do with Nick's career choices. He does not have to work but he's been throwing himself into gigs and projects.'
Indeed, the fact that Nick doesn't 'have' to work continues to be a sore spot in their marriage.
'She has tried and tried to get him to stay home more, but he always uses work as an excuse,' E!'s source added. Of course, Mariah only makes it worse by pointing out that he doesn't really need to work - 'he hates when people assume he's living off her money.'

America's Got Talent - which Nick serves as its host - films in New York City, but he opts for a lot of LA-based gigs that take him away from home. 'If and when they split, she intends to stay in NYC with the kids,' said E!'s source. 'She will fight for the kids. She is totally focused on them.' Nick is likeminded when it comes to 'dem babies' - their 3-year-old twins,

Monroe. When he dropped the bombshell to The Insider that he and Mariah have been 'living in separate houses for a few months,' he also added that his 'main focus is [his] kids.'
While the distance and the fights over money have certainly taken their toll, so too have the rumors of Nick's cheating. Mariah even hired a security guard to keep an eye on him while he was hosting parties in Las Vegas, reported . 'The security guard wasn't there to keep the girls away from him. It was to keep him away from the girls,' said their source.
That said, it's understandable why Mariah is so devastated. However, given that she is notoriously private and has gotten upset with Nick for sharing details of their private life in the past, we're not sure that she will be too happy about Nick's latest overshare.
