With the 2014 Winter Olympics just a week away, and Feb. 1 marking the official start of Black History Month, the timing couldn't have been more perfect for the premiere of The Gabby Douglas Story, Lifetime's biopic of the first African-American to win the title of Individual All-Around Champion in artistic gymnastics. Lifetime has been churning out solid original movies all year, but after two sensationalized nail-biters - neither Flowers In The Attic nor Lizzie Borden Took An Ax could be qualified as "encouraging" or "uplifting" - it was nice to see the true story of someone we should all aspire to be more like.
Needless to say, I'm finding myself more excited than ever for Gabby's sure-to-be-triumphant return to the Olympics. Is it 2016 yet?
