With the 2014 Winter Olympics just a week away, and Feb. 1 marking the official start of Black History Month, the timing couldn't have been more perfect for the premiere of The Gabby Douglas Story, Lifetime's biopic of the first African-American to win the title of Individual All-Around Champion in artistic gymnastics. Gabby Douglas' Lifetime Movie: Our Review
Gabby Douglas has handled her time in the spotlight with as much grace and poise as she shows on the gymnastics floor, and Lifetime's look at her personal journey revealed why that is.

Actresses
Sydney Mikayla and
Imani Hakim masterfully portrayed Gabby's dedication to her sport and herself; and
Regina King, as Natalie Hawkins, showed how Gabby's mother supported her, and continues to do so, every step of the way.
Lifetime has been churning out solid original movies all year, but after two sensationalized nail-biters - neither Flowers In The Attic nor Lizzie Borden Took An Ax could be qualified as "encouraging" or "uplifting" - it was nice to see the true story of someone we should all aspire to be more like.
Needless to say, I'm finding myself more excited than ever for Gabby's sure-to-be-triumphant return to the Olympics. Is it 2016 yet?
