OutFit 7 has debunked allegations that the childrens' app has been harvesting personal information about its users.
Rumors that the application violates privacy regulations began to circulate on Facebook over the weekend, with some users even claiming that it is a front for a paedophile ring.
However, security company Sophos and urban legend debunker have since clarified that the reports were unfounded.
'We wish to emphasise that no personal data whatsoever is being collected from the users of our app Talking Angela,' said OutFit 7 in a statement.
'The description clearly informs the user that one of the core functionalities of the app is chat, which requires two-way communication, where Angela [a chat bot, not a real person].'
Talking Angela features an animated cat that chats with users, mimics their mannerisms and encourages them to purchase in-app gifts.
The free app for iOS and Android was the subject of a similar hoax in 2013.
